Dr. Saoly Benson
Board Certified Orthodontist
Dr. Benson is a native of the evergreen Washington state, where she earned her first degree, an Associate of Science in Chemistry, during her last two years in high school. Chasing sunnier days, she moved to Stockton, California and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology at University of the Pacific.
She then matriculated to University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, California to earn her Doctorate of Dental Surgery. While in dental school, Dr. Benson worked on Cleft Lip and Palate research in the craniofacial genetics laboratory and has presented internationally on the topic. One of her favorite memories during dental school was being in Barcelona to present her research when Spain won the World Cup in 2010. She also fondly remembers her time serving on a dental mission in Peru and then backpacking the 26 mile Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
Following her childhood dream to become an orthodontist, she completed a one year orthodontic fellowship at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine. She then completed a 30 month residency in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at UNLV, where she was chief resident and earned the “Outstanding Orthodontic Resident” Award. There, she conducted research on 3-D imaging and concomitantly earned a Master of Science in Oral Biology. Following 11 long years of intensive higher education, Dr. Benson took the extra step of becoming a board certified orthodontist, a title held by only 1 in 3 orthodontists in America. This requires voluntarily going through hundreds of additional hours of preparation to demonstrate the judgment, skills, and knowledge required to provide the highest level of patient care. A strong believer in lifelong learning, Dr. Benson continues to attend numerous continuuing education courses in her commitment to providing the best care to her patients.
During her residency in Las Vegas, Dr. Benson fell in love with the beauty of the southwest and bountiful adventure it had to offer. During her free-time, she is an avid outdoors enthusiast and enjoys hiking, canyoneering, and rock climbing. She takes pleasure in documenting her many adventures through her love of digital photography.
Dr. Sara Liu
Family and Cosmetic Dentist
Dr. Sara Liu is a Tarheel fan from North Carolina where she graduated with a bachelor of science in biology and psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Go Heels!
She first became involved with dentistry through the Missions of Mercy program which provided free dental care to rural towns in the tristate area. She remembers driving all over the state from coastal towns like Washington, NC, to the mountains in Silva, NC, to set up makeshift clinics in churches and school gyms so they could provide dental care to people who did not have any other options.
After deciding that she loved dentistry, Dr. Liu started her career by obtaining an associate’s degree in dental laboratory technology where she was presented with the Academic Excellence Award by the North Carolina Dental Laboratory Association. She met and learned from a lot of great people that help the dentist behind the scenes in giving their patients’ the smile they want. After working as a dental technician, she was accepted to University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine. During the four years of dental school, Dr. Liu grew to love Las Vegas and the people in this supportive community.
She graduated cum laude with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine. She was nominated and inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society from the top percentile of her class. Continuing her pursuit of academic and clinical excellence, Dr. Liu completed the General Practice Residency program at UNLV. During this program, she was able to perform hospital dentistry through UMC on medically complex patients, help veterans at the VA hospital, and learn advanced dental skills including implants, CAD/CAM, and sedation. This advanced training allows her to provide comprehensive care for her patients with a high quality of treatment.
When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Liu likes to go on adventures with her dog Cody who is a 2 year old tricolor Corgi. They have explored Red Rock, Mt. Charleston, and Zion so far. Cody recently had his first dental cleaning and is working on his daily brushing etiquette.
This Southern California native moved to Henderson about 12 years ago. She enjoys meeting new people through her role as a treatment coordinator, and is proud to start them on their journey towards a new smile.
When not working hard at Sunrise Mountain Dental and Orthodontics, you can always find her with a nose in a book (anything by the amazing Jane Austen is her favorite), hanging out with friends, at the kickboxing gym, or catching a run with her dog, Woody.
